Post-run eats...

Well, two of my favorite things to do in this life are eating and running. So it's nice to find a way to somehow combine the two. While I occassionally eat something while running, I prefer to run and then eat something afterwards. Exercise scientists claim that eating something within 15 to 30 minutes after a workout helps replenish your energy stores more efficiently.

One of my favorite social events is to run with a group of friends early on Saturday mornings, after which we go out somewhere for breakfast. So after the typical 12 miles in the morning, I tend to work up a good appetite -- something I don't really need help with to begin with...

Anyhow, we went to the 43rd Street Deli (Gainesville, FL) and I had some the belgian waffles with some eggs and sausages on the side... highly recommended. I'd also recommend the 7 grain pancakes there as they are as big as your head. For long-time Gainesvillians, if you remember Skeeter's on NW 13th Street, they used to have these huge pancakes that took up the whole plate. It seems like 43rd Street Deli has taken up the mantle of making humongous pancakes for those of you with enormous appetites. A regular person can probably get by with only one 7 grain pancake. They're very dense and filling, not the fluffy like most typical pancakes, but that's their appeal. Good stuff... My only beef about the place is that you have to seat yourself, which can be somewhat problematic on very busy weekend mornings, and sometimes the service is slow. But the food is generally very good.

Anyhow, that's all for now...
